Aberdeen Area Retired School Teachers and Personnel Endowment
The Aberdeen Public Schools Foundation is proud to announce the establishment of a significant new endowment fund, created by the Aberdeen Area Retired School Teachers and Personnel. This fund is dedicated to supporting the next generation of educators by providing scholarships to Aberdeen Central High School graduates who are pursuing careers in pre through 12 education.
The Aberdeen Area Retired School Teachers and Personnel, an organization with a rich history of supporting educational initiatives, recognizes the importance of fostering a passion for teaching in young individuals. Once fully funded, this endowment will not only provide financial assistance but also serve as an investment in the quality of education for future generations.
Preference for the scholarships from this endowment will be given to students who have demonstrated a commitment to education through membership in Educators Rising and have a job or internship experience working with children. Educators Rising is a national career and technical student organization that supports students who are interested in the field of education, providing them with resources and opportunities to develop the skills necessary for becoming effective teachers. Community service and financial need may also be considered.
Dr. Gayle Bortnem, President of Aberdeen Area Retired School Teachers and Personnel, expressed her enthusiasm for the new initiative, "Though our members are retired, our hearts are still with the students in their educational journeys. We know the value of quality experiences in our schools and we want to do all we can to support our young people in their pursuit of educational careers.”
This new endowment is a testament to the Aberdeen Public Schools Foundation's pledge to support Aberdeen School District students and staff by fostering educational excellence and preparing students for a successful future. Through scholarships, grants, and various programs, the foundation is committed to enhancing the quality of education and expanding learning opportunities for students.
