Welcome to Kindergarten!
Kindergarten is a big milestone for your child—and for your entire family—and we're excited to have you join the Aberdeen Public Schools community!
At the Aberdeen Public School District, we're committed to empowering all students to succeed in a changing world—and that begins with a supportive, nurturing kindergarten environment.
Our district includes six elementary schools:
C.C. Lee Elementary
Lincoln Elementary
May Overby Elementary
Mike Miller Elementary
O.M. Tiffany Elementary
Simmons Elementary
At each of our schools, your child will be taught by caring, dedicated teachers who are ready to help them learn and grow—and set them on the path to success!

Families will receive free learning kits at Kindergarten Registration Day
Families with incoming kindergarteners who attend Aberdeen Public School District’s Kindergarten Registration Day will receive a free learning kit to help set their child up for success at school.
Two-hundred learning kits will be given out at the free kindergarten registration event, which is set for 2-6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, at Simmons Middle School, 1300 S. Third St.
Each kit will contain three learning items that parents can use with their children:
· A reading readiness activity set to develop early literacy skills, such as matching uppercase and lowercase letters, learning sounds, and blending and segmenting sounds.
· A set of counting puzzle cards, with a number on one piece and corresponding illustrated animals on the other, which help develop early math skills through play.
· A water workbook with teacher-developed activities focused on tracing uppercase and lowercase letters and practicing beginning letter sounds.
“Kindergarten is a big milestone for children, and for their entire family,” said Aberdeen Public Schools Elementary Instructional Coach/Coordinator Bailey Mohr. “We want to put learning tools in parents’ hands to equip and empower them to help their child succeed.”

Listen without interrupting.
Get along with others.
Use words to express feelings.
Use the bathroom without help.
Put on shoes, zip coat, fasten buttons.
Be able to use crayons, pencils, scissors.
Wait for attention.
Sit and listen to a story for 10 minutes.
Be able to recognize and write their first name.
What can parents do to help?
