Collage of Top 10 News Stories of 2024

It’s been a wonderful year for the Aberdeen Public School District! 

Throughout 2024, we reported numerous good news items that celebrated achievements by our students and staff. Below, check out our top ten stories of the year: 

  1. Lincoln Elementary was named a 2024 National Blue Ribbon School—one of only 356 schools across the country to receive this distinction.

  2. Aberdeen Central senior Ryan Fiechtner was officially appointed to the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis after being named U.S. Senator Mike Rounds’ top nominee.

  3. Central High School’s Kerry Konda was named the 2024 National Speech and Debate Coach of the Year by the National Speech and Debate Association.

  4. CHS senior Breanna Wollman was selected as a top 6 finalist for National Student of the Year by the National Speech and Debate Association.

  5. CHS teacher Nicole Siebrasse was selected for the Fulbright Teacher for Global Classrooms program.

  6. Central senior Aglaia Ramey has been awarded a full scholarship to the University of Notre Dame through the QuestBridge National College Match Program.

  7. CHS students Christian Wells, Grant Fritz, Samson Flakus and Kirra Stillman were selected to participate in the International Science and Engineering Fair in Los Angeles.

  8. CHS senior Mya Heintzman was selected for this year’s cohort of the national Youth Collaboratory Program.

  9. CHS students Kylie Clemens, Sascha Usselman and Alexis Ketterling were national qualifiers for Educators Rising.

  10. Central junior Joseph Pierce was chosen to attend the Al Neuharth Free Spirit and Journalism Conference.
