SMS students in the library

This Thanksgiving week, Simmons Middle School students got creative for a good cause!

Tuesday was Create for a Cause Day at Simmons, where students worked on a variety of community service projects.

Students broke into groups to work on the following projects:

  • Baking tasty treats to be hand-delivered to hometown heroes at the local fire and police stations.

  • Picking up trash around the school and partnering with the custodial team to clean classrooms.

  • Creating cozy, colorful tie blankets to be donated to the cancer center.

  • Using Canva to create cards as well as designing children’s books to be donated to Head Start and the YDC.

  • Creating lanyards that will be donated to Operation Gratitude and sent to U.S. military members overseas.

  • Assembling Eagle Welcome Kits for new students.

  • Making bracelets filled with positivity and encouragement to show appreciation to our nurses.

  • Designing coasters with uplifting messages and crafting adorable holiday-themed décor to brighten up local nursing homes.

  • Sewing colorful felt marble fidget mazes to be donated to local elementary schools.

  • Creating a personalized worry stone, to be donated to hospital patients.

  • Working with kids at an elementary school—reading a story, diving into a project or helping around the school.

  • Working with a member from the Aberdeen Area Foster Closet to assemble 48-hour kits for children in need.
