ABERDEEN, S.D. – On Monday, the Aberdeen School Board recognized Susan Appl, winner of the 2023 Encore Award.
Appl, a music teacher at Central High School, was presented with the award by the South Dakota Chapter of the American Choral Directors Association at the Senior Honor Choir Concert on Aug. 4.
The Encore Award is given each year by the SD-ACDA to a choral director working in South Dakota in recognition of excellence and achievement in the field of choral music.
Appl was nominated anonymously, with a peer writing, “Her students are passionate and skilled performers who are also kind, inclusive, and encouraging. I know all of these things are instilled in them by Susan. … Susan’s deserving of this award, because she’s built a successful, robust program filled with passionate and skilled student performers who love vocal music."
