ABERDEEN, S.D. – This past weekend, members of the Art Club participated in and earned recognition at both the State Art and Art Wars Competitions, showcasing their exceptional talent, creativity, and dedication.
The Art Wars competition is highly competitive, beginning with students selecting their preferred supplies and being given a prompt by judges to inspire the creation of an original artwork. Each student must complete their work and write an artist statement within the 1 hour and 45-minute time limit. The prompts are not revealed in advance, making it essential for students to bring their creativity, critical thinking, and time management skills to the competition.
Since October, many of our students have dedicated their Fridays from 3:20 to 4:30 p.m. to after-school practice sessions with their art teacher, Amber Dallmann, honing their skills and preparing for the competition. This commitment truly paid off, with all three of our Art Wars competitors earning top spots at the regional level and continuing their success at the state competition.
Art Wars Placements: Our students earned notable placements across multiple categories at both regional and state levels:
Alta ThreeLegs earned 1st place in the Drawing category, becoming the State Champion. She also placed 2nd in the State Art Competition in the Cultural Arts category with her piece, "Family Ties."
Raini LaBrosse earned 2nd place in Digital Art and 3rd place in Ceramics.
Ken Aumer received 3rd place in the State Art and 1st place in Art Wars competitions in the Oil/Acrylic Painting category with his piece, "Why Can't They See Me."
Additional State Art Show Participants: While we did not have all artworks place in the following categories, we are incredibly proud of these students who also had their work featured in the State Art Show:
