ABERDEEN, S.D. – Aberdeen Central High School had a strong showing at the State Educators Rising Conference, with the team receiving the Gold Outstanding Chapter award.
Thirteen members of the CHS Educators Rising chapter attended the conference, held Feb. 23-24 at Dakota State University, with six of the students there as competitors.
Central’s Kylie Clemens earned first place and qualified for Nationals in STEM Lesson Planning.
Clemens and Teagan Braun also both got a gold for Interactive Bulletin Board, with Clemens qualifying for Nationals in that category as well.
Sascha Usselman and Tehya Usselman, competing together, earned a bronze and received third place for K-3 Children's Literature.
Taryn Thorstenson and Addisyn Aman both received a bronze for their EdRising Moment speech.
A group of five CHS Educators Rising team members also led a breakout session called "Finding Your Grade Level."
CHS Educators Rising Advisor Elizabeth Ketterling also presented two breakout sessions, titled “Kagan Cooperative Learning Structures,” and “Love Languages: Why they matter in the classroom.”
Ketterling said she is very proud of the team’s showing at this year's conference.
“More of our students competed than in past years and this is the biggest group we have taken,” she said. “It is so important for future teachers to be in the same place as other future teachers to make connections and be inspired to go into the profession.”
Educators Rising provides hands-on experience for future teachers. At the state level, the organization aims to combat the shortage of teachers, especially here in South Dakota. To learn more, visit the Educators Rising website.
