Also today, the Aberdeen Chamber held a new teacher luncheon, where speakers included Lincoln Elementary's own Lauren Wilkinson! Thank you to the Chamber for hosting!

This Rachel's Challenge community event is open to the public, ages 12 and up, on Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. in the CHS Theatre.

Dear Holgate Middle School Parents/Guardians,
We are excited to kick-off another school year with a half day of school on August 22nd from 8:00-11:45 am. We have a few events planned to help make the first day go well.
6th grade students should plan to attend WEB at Holgate Middle School on Friday, August 18th from 9:00-11:00 am. Students will get a tour of the school, practice locker combinations, and meet other 6th graders. This event is for students only and we request that students do not bring anything with them to participate in WEB.
6th grade Open House is Monday, August 21st from 5:30-6:30 pm. Parents/Guardians and 6th grade students are invited to attend a short meeting in the gymnasium, pick up schedules, purchase planners ($5), deposit lunch money, set up lockers, tour the building, and pay the technology fee ($25). Chromebooks will be checked out to 6th grade students during class within the first week of school. All permission forms and the technology user agreement are located on Parent Portal for parent/guardian review and signature. If you need help accessing your Parent Portal account, please call the school at (605) 725-7700.
HMS 7th and 8th grade students may pick up their schedules/locker assignments, purchase planners ($5), deposit lunch money, set up their lockers, pay the technology fee ($25), and checkout Chromebooks on Monday, August 21st from 8:00 am–3:30 pm. The annual $25 Chromebook fee is an accidental damage protection insurance policy for your child’s Chromebook for the 2023-2024 school year. We strongly encourage you to pay this fee, as it can greatly reduce your charges during the year. If your child’s Chromebook is damaged due to accidental causes, you will only be charged $25 for a new policy. If the Chromebook is damaged due to negligence or purposeful mistreatment, fees will be assessed according to the use policy.

Please read the message below from Aberdeen Central High School:
Next school year, in a partnership with Sanford, CHS will be offering a Sports Performance class to our student athletes. This class is available to ATHLETES ONLY and focuses on strength, agility and injury prevention. If this class is taken during students' sports season, it will take the place of the team lifting workouts that are typically required before or after school. If students take it during the off season, it will help them maintain and improve their performance.
This class can count towards PE credit required for graduation, and if the student has already met the PE requirement it will count towards electives. Also, unlike other classes, students take Sports Performance every term, every year they are in high school if they wanted to and they will receive credit each time they take the class, no matter how many times they take it.
It is only offered during 3rd or 4th blocks, so if they would like to get this course added to their schedule they need to fill out the online schedule change form and we can make that change for them. If they have questions about the class, be sure to visit with their coach.

Holgate Middle School Yearbooks are currently on sale. The cost this year is $13.00. Students should pay their homeroom teacher by Friday, May 19th if they want to purchase a Yearbook. The HMS Yearbooks will be handed out on the last day of school.
