SOUTH DAKOTA OPPORTUNITY SCHOLARSHIP: Seniors with ACT composite scores of 24 or above who plan to attend South Dakota colleges or technical schools should apply. Course requirements in English, math, science, social studies, fine arts, physical education, health and foreign language//tech are also required. Awards are worth $6,500 over four years. VOICE OF DEMOCRACY PATRIOTIC AUDIO ESSAY COMPETITION: Students in Grades 9-12 can compete for scholarships and incentives by writing and recording original 3-5 minute recording on an annual patriotic theme. 2018 theme is "Why My Vote Matters." .PDF $2 million Nationally October 31

P.E.O. STAR SCHOLARSHIP: $2,500 national award given to a senior woman planning to attend accredited post-secondary educational institutions in the United States or Canada. Criteria includes: Activities/Community service, Character, Academic, 3.0 GPA.   $2,500 November 1
PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARD: Grades 9-12. Students must describe volunteer service activities performed after September of the previous school year. ANNE FORD SCHOLARSHIP:  This $10,000 national award is given annually to a senior who has a learning disability, a 3.0 grade point average, and plans to pursue a four-year college degree.  The winner mentors future scholars and acts as a role model for people with learning disabilities.    $10,000 November 12
ELKS NATIONAL FOUNDATION "MOST VALUABLE STUDENT" SCHOLARSHIP: Seniors with demonstrated leadership, scholarship, and financial need are encouraged to apply. 500 national awards, ranging in size from $4,000 to $50,000 will be awarded.   $4,000-$50,000 November 15

DAKOTA CORPS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM:  This program is aimed at keeping South Dakota high school graduates in-state and working in critical need occupations. Winners must stay and work in SD in a “critical need occupation” for as many years as the scholarship is received plus one year. Applicants must have 2.8 grade point averages and ACT scores of 27.   Full tuition & fees for up to 4 years at a SD college February 1
JACKIE ROBINSON FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP:  Seniors who are graduating minority students, planning to attend four year colleges, possess ACT composite scores of 21, and demonstrate financial need may apply.    up to $30,000 over 4 years February 1
ROSS WENSMANN MEMORIAL STUDENTS AGAINST DESTRUCTIVE DECISIONS SCHOLARSHIP: Seniors who have been in SADD for at least three years, demonstrated leadership and strongly believe in what SADD stands for are eligible for this scholarship. Two awards will be given to CHS Seniors. The award is named for Ross Wensmann, a four-year letter winner and two-year advisory board member who passed away in June 2010. .PDF $500 February 1
EPSILON SIGMA ALPHA FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP: Seniors who have minimum GPA of 3.0 or who have minimum ACT composite scores of 22 are eligible to apply. .PDF $750-$3,000 February 1
ALZHEIMER’S AWARENESS COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP: One award will be annually given to a senior who submits a 200-word bio and writes a 1,200-1,500 word essay that explains how Alzheimer’s disease has changed or impacted his/her life.   $500-$5,000 February 15
MARION T. WOOD SCHOLARSHIP:  This scholarship is designed to assist students who wish to continue their education and pursue office-related business programs.  Candidates must have completed two or more business education courses (four semesters) from among the following:  computer classes, keyboarding, typing, shorthand, office practices and procedures, accounting and/or bookkeeping.  Applicants must also have made application to a school and be planning to enroll full-time next year.  The national scholarship is worth $500.  .PDF $500 February 15
RAMIA BOERSMA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: Seniors who are sons or daughters of active or retired SDEA/NEA members and are planning to enter the teaching profession are eligible to apply for one of three $750 scholarships. .PDF $750 February 15
STRATFORD COMMUNITY THEATRE SCHOLARSHIP:  $500 awards will be given to seniors who have demonstrated outstanding school and community involvement.  Application deadline:  mid February. .PDF $500 February 15
BASIN ELECTRIC POWER COOPERATIVE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM:  Seniors who are children of Basin Electric employees, any of its subsidiaries or member cooperatives are eligible to apply for these awards.  Academic excellence, participation in school and community activities and work experience are criteria that will be considered.  .PDF $500 and $1,000 February 16
FOWLER/KADEN SCHOLARSHIP:  This scholarship endowment provides support for young men or women who have dedicated themselves to becoming elementary teachers.  The award is given to a freshman entering Black Hills State University, Dakota State University, Northern State University or the University of South Dakota who has a 3.0 GPA.  .PDF $1,000 February 22

ABERDEEN CENTRAL MUSIC BOOSTERS SCHOLARSHIP: Students who have participated in 16 terms of high school music and who will enroll, participate, and pass a course in music in the fall of the year that the scholarship is awarded are eligible to apply. Three $500 scholarships (one in orchestra, one in band, and one in vocal) will be given second semester of the freshman year in college.  .PDF $500 March 1
AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY CHILDREN OF WARIORS NATIONAL PRESIDENT'S SCHOLARSHIP: Candidates for this award shall be daughters,  sons, grandsons, granddaughters, great-granddaughters, great-grandsons of veterans who served in the Armed Forces during eligibility dates for membership in The American Legion.   $2,500-3,500 March 1

BUILD DAKOTA SCHOLARSHIP: Must attend a South Dakota technical college. Must major in automotive, building trades/ construction, energy technician, engineering technician, LPN, medical lab technician, precision manufacturing, or welding. ABERDEEN CITY PTA SCHOLARSHIP:  Two $300 scholarships will be given to two C.H.S. seniors with 2.5 GPAs whose parents have been Aberdeen PTA members for at least two years.  .PDF $300 April 1

JOHNSON-HERSCHLEB SCHOLARSHIP:  Three $1,000 scholarships will be given to Central High School seniors interested in the fields of business or fine arts and who have financial need.  Applicants must have cumulative 2.80 GPA and have demonstrated leadership during their years of high school.  .PDF $1,000 April 15

SOUTH DAKOTA AVIATION ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP: Multiple scholarships in the amount of up to $3,000 annually are available to students entering approved flight training programs for future careers that will be related to or benefit the aerial application industry. .PDF $3,000 April 20

EASTERN STAR SCHOLARSHIP:  The Order of Eastern Star, Minerva Chapter No. 5, of Aberdeen will award one scholarship in the amount of $500 to a high school senios from Aberdeen high schools or from high schools surrounding Aberdeen.  Applicants must have ACT composite scores of 20 or above and rank in the top third of their class.  .PDF $500 April 24

AYN RAND ESSAY CONTEST: Juniors or seniors are to write essays of between 800 - 1,600 words on one of three topics from Ayn Rand's novel, The Fountainhead.   up to $10,000 May 25
COLLEGESTEPS SWEEPSTAKES PROGRAM SCHOLARSHIP: Students that register with the CollegeSTEPS Sweepstakes Program are eligible to win one $1,000 and 20 $500 scholarships drawn for four times a year. Winners are chosen through random drawings so all registered seniors have an equal chance of winning.   $1,000 May 30
