Administration
I’m simultaneously amazed and gratified
that people read this annual missive introducing Aberdeen School
District. It’s easy for me to sing the praises of our District
when there are such exceptional teachers, administrators, and
support staff working with what we believe are exceptional
students. As a result, Aberdeen School District has earned
local, regional, and even national accolades for accomplishments
in academics and co-curricular activities. Additionally,
partnerships with Northern State University, Presentation
College, and local and regional businesses and civic groups
support our mission to “Empower all students to succeed in a
changing world.”
With additional input from other
administrators, coaches, and directors, I’ve created a
presentation entitled “Top 25 Reasons ASD is a GREAT School District.” You can
view and appreciate those successes by clicking here.
Some are little known facts. Other information reinforces our
efforts to provide the best education possible for our
District’s students. Additionally, there is a second presentation called "Focus on Academics" which can be accessed by clicking here. You'll see examples of students, teachers, facilities, and programs that emphasize student achievement in our District.
Credit must certainly be given to one of
the most visionary Boards with whom I’ve had the pleasure of
working. Through the Board’s courage to make student-centered
decisions which are sometimes very difficult, Aberdeen School
District has become one of the leaders in South Dakota’s schools
in both academics and facilities.
I am particularly proud of our achievement
test scores. Our ACT scores are above the State and National
averages. Our students scored in the proficient or advanced
categories in 108 of the 110 subgroups in which we’re measured
on the DakotaSTEP. Last year, three seniors earned National
Merit Finalist status, more than any other ESD school.
It’s my pleasure and privilege to serve as
Superintendent of Aberdeen School District. Few things bring me
as much professional enjoyment as sharing with others the
successes of our staff and students. Please do not hesitate to contact the Board or me with your
ideas and suggestions for continued improvement.
Sincerely,
Dr. Gary D. Harms
Superintendent
